Boris Makarucha
Boris Makarucha, founder and creator of the MAKARUCHA brand, has fashion streaming in his blood. Boris has always been interesting in sewing and finds his inspiration in the cherished memory of his father and his old Singer sewing machine that got Boris fascinated even as a small boy. For as far as he can remember, Boris associates the image of his father with the gentle humming of the Singer machine he used to transform mainly robust fabrics into pants and other men’s clothes.
This preference for robust fabrics such as denim has stayed with Boris to this day.
Although his first attempts at sewing failed, he taught himself the craft with patience and incredible perseverance. It really all started when, frustrated with the choice of jeans offered by the retail fashion industry he decided to design his own jeans and friends offered him a sewing machine. While training as a fashion tailor, he decided to start his own label and sold his first pieces on Facebook.
Since 2009, the safety pin has been his trademark - a symbol of safety and durability. He works exclusively with natural materials such as cotton, silk and leather, including exotic ones such as fish leather. His collections range from classic to quirky and wild, inspired by Asian motifs.
In his hometown, Weimar, a city that lives in the classic era, Boris often wonders how Goethe or Schiller would dress today – and likes to think that perhaps they would love to try on one of his extravagant designs.
