L’Abbaye Hotel, as its name suggests, was once a historic abbey. Charlotte, our lovely & beautiful host runs and coordinates the day to day of the property sat with me and provided details of the property in a very serene setting for interview. The biggest plus is that the property is family owned! You can feel the warmth and coziness of family the second you enter its doors! Perfection is an understatement to nod when it comes to florals and the decor is the epitome of comfort and style! Historically, The abbey dates back to the early medieval period when it was established as a place of worship and sanctuary for monks. Built in the Romanesque architectural style, the abbey served as a spiritual center for the local community. Its secluded location amidst the rolling hills and along the gentle flow of the river Le Loup made it an ideal place for contemplation and prayer. The tumultuous period of the French Revolution brought significant changes to the abbey. As religious institutions faced suppression, the abbey was secularized and its properties were confiscated. The monks were dispersed, and the abbey fell into a state of disrepair. For many years, it stood abandoned, a silent witness to the passage of time and the upheavals of history. However, Restoration & Rebirth wins! In the late 19th century, efforts to restore the abbey began. Local historians and preservationists recognized its historical and architectural significance and embarked on a mission to revive its former glory. The abbey underwent extensive restoration, carefully preserving its original features while adapting it for modern use.
