Europe is the leader in Fashion, Beauty, Glamour, and Style. This continent conquers the world by becoming richer through all these sectors. According to various rankings, Europe holds 80% of the global Fashion and Beauty power. How is this possible? The reason is that Europe has incredible brands like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Balenciaga, Chanel, and more. The list is so long!
Explaining all the brands requires more than an article, as European fashion history is full of satisfaction, adventure, and incredible memories. In recent years, Europe has become even stronger, but with the start of 2024, competition is higher than in the past. Europe must now face a new protagonist: Asia.
Asia is a diverse continent. Among wealth, there is also poverty. Where there is technology, there is also rural culture. When it comes to fashion, Asia is creating an emerging empire strong enough to challenge Europe. Tokyo and Shanghai are the best Asian cities promoting fashion at the highest level. How do they manage?
They invest in countries Europe often overlooks. How so? While Europe promotes its fashion business in affluent countries like the USA, Canada, and Russia, Asia prefers to target a broader market, focusing on Southeast Asia, Africa, and Australia.
“Europe is strong, but lacks marketing, economic strategies, and administration skills,” some experts say. “The reason? Europeans believe their power is secure, with the economy being their strongest asset. Meanwhile, Asia focuses on these aspects diligently.”
“The issue is that Europe cannot compete with Asia in economic terms. Asia has great businessmen and businesswomen, and important commercial hubs. A prime example? Hong Kong. This city is the promoter of Asian business. Europe has no center quite like it.”
Asia has significant financial centers. Besides Hong Kong, there is also Shanghai, known as the “Pearl of Asia.” In recent years, Shanghai Fashion Week has become the third most influential event globally, after Paris and Milan. Young talents are vital promoters in this sector. They emphasize merging technology and innovation with traditional culture, yet increasingly, young designers aim to promote a modern concept of style.
The most intriguing part is that Europeans are feeling drawn to Shanghai – a real “Shanghai Mania!” German and French talents are moving to this city to build new careers in fashion. According to some, it’s the best investment. Could this be true?
I hope “Shanghai Mania” becomes even stronger and that Europeans foster friendly competition with this new fashion powerhouse.
